Contractor punished for misusing subsidized food

JAJARKOT, May 14: District Food Security Committee has taken action against a transportation contractor for his involvement in selling subsidized rice meant for poor people of the rural areas.



Contractor Hari Bahadur Khadka had sold the rice consigned to a go-down of Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) at Ghat in Nayakwada VDC mid-way to the destination.

The NFC headquarters had requested the District Administration Office to take action against Khadka´s act came to its notice. [break]



Sukdev Lamsal, Assistant Chief District Officer, said the committee´s meeting held on Tuesday decided to take action against Khadka.



The committee had investigated the case by conducting field inspections to different villages, including Rimna, Dalli, Kalimati, Ragda, Sakla, Nayakbada and Panchkatiya.



“We took action against Khadka after on-the -spot inspection and news published in the media proved that he was involved in misappropriation of the subsidized rice,” said Lamsal.



He said the committee had cancelled a food transport contract with him besides forfeiting Rs 58,000 taken from him as a deposit.



Locals had long been complaining about the misuse of the subsidized rice by contractors. However, no contractors had been brought to book.
