KANCHANPUR, Feb 14: Construction of the Kalapani-based irrigation project at Jhalari Pipladi Municipality in Kanchanpur has been delayed due to negligence on the part of the contractor.

An agreement on the implementation of project was signed last July. The implementation cost is Rs. 89 million. The project was supposed to complete within the fifteen months of the signing of the agreement, but no progress is seen yet, the locals said.

The contractor argued that it could not take the project into implementation phase due to the severe fuel crisis in the country.

The project is funded by the World Bank, Irrigation Committee Chair Laxman Dhanuk said. The construction project is expected to irrigate over 600 hectares of land.
