Speaking at the press meet in Birgunj on Wednesday, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Chairman Mahanta Thakur said formation of a national consensus government is a must for promulgating the new constitution. [break]
“As the current government is left-dominated, it won´t be able to promulgate a constitution that would be acceptable to all,” he said.
Thakur claimed the Madheshi People´s Right Forum (MPRF) is also a leftist party though it projects itself as a democratic party.
Madheshi Peoples´ Right Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar warned that post-May 28 scenario would be more complex. “Top leaders of major parties do not seem serious about it. Lack of seriousness on the part of senior leaders of major political parties is dangerous,” he said.
Gachchhadar said that it would be unfortunate for the country if the CA term is extended at the eleventh hour. Asked what the UDMF would do in such a situation, he said, “You will come to know within a couple of days.”
Speaking at the same function, Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato said UDMF would use its full strength to safeguard federalism and democracy. He warned that they would take to the streets if the CA tenure is extended forcefully.
