Condolences pour in on GPK's death

KATHMANDU, March 24: British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has extended his condolence to Nepal, families of late Girija Prasad Koirala and the Nepali Congress on the demise of Koirala.



“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of Nepal´s former PM Girija Prasad Koirala,” a statement from the British Embassy quoted Brown as saying in a condolence message. In the message, Brown lauded Koirala´s fight for democracy and his role as an architect of Nepal´s peace process.



Similarly, President of Indian National Congress and Chair of the United Progressive Alliance, Sonia Gandhi wrote to Sujata Koirala on Monday expressing sympathies for the bereaved family.



Meanwhile, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr Dipu Moni also expressed condolence over Koirala´s death. In the messages sent to Nepal´s deputy prime minister Sujata Koirala, the Bangladeshi foreign minister said she was deeply shocked and sad to receive the news of the passing away of GP Koirala.
