KATHMANDU, April 7: Gavin Moles, a 43 year old British national is currently on world tour on his cycle to raise money for the Bote community in Palpa.

Moles in collaboration with Hamro Chahana Nepal (HCN), an NGO based in Nepal are collaborating in this noble cause. He is also a praiseworthy artist; who lived in Palpa amongst the Botes for a month and depicted their lifestyle on his canvas. [break]

These paintings will be exhibited and auctioned in Ahemadabad, India next week and in London in June.

“I wanted to start my tour with a cause but I stared anyhow in the month of April last year. I’ve been to 18 countries including those of Europe, Middle East and South Asia, informed Moles.

The Botes are a minority in Palpa, who until now have not managed to stride forward in any direction. Their major occupation is fishing.

According to Smriti Pokharel from Hamro Chahana Nepal, they are facing three major challenges.

“They don’t know the value of education, they have major unchecked health issues and there is no source for income generation.”

HCN, an NGO based in Nepal has been working extensively for their upliftment since the past four years.

They have organized various reproductive health camps and eye camps along with constructing a library and supplying education materials to schools and free medicines for the locals.
