The hospital said that Adhikari, 27, of Dhapakhel, Lalitpur and her new born died due to the anesthetic drug administered on her during the course of caesarian section. [break]
Earlier, her relatives had declined to receive the bodies and had also demanded compensation and probe against the doctors involved. They alleged that Adhikari and her baby had died due to the negligence of doctors. They had also vandalized the hospital properties following the death of Adhikari on Thursday night.
While conducting a caesarian section, the doctors gave Adhikari anesthetic drug called Bupivacaine for spinal anesthesia, which, the hospital claimed, is a practice all over the world.
The hospital said the mother and her baby were transferred to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after their health deteriorated due to the reaction of the medicine.
The police have arrested 15 people for destroying hospital properties. Chief District Officer of Lalitpur on Friday mediated the dialogue between the hospital authority and the family of deceased.
"We have agreed to form a probe committee comprising of deceased family members, hospital representatives and representatives from District Administration Office," Krishna Bahadur Bhandary, registrar of Patan Academy of Health Sciences, said.
