KATHMANDU, Nov 7: As many as 47 civil society leaders led by former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai on Saturday submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli suggesting him not to look at the Indian blockade on Nepal and Madhes unrest through the same lens.
In the memorandum it has been suggested that the tarai unrest should be resolved internally while Indian blockade through diplomatic efforts.
The fault lines of civil society
The memorandum has been signed by civil society leaders including Daman Nath Dhungana, Padma Ratna Tuladhar, Bidyadhar Mallik, Krishna Hathechhu, Tula Ram Shah, Khagendra Sangraula, Yug Pathak, Khim Lal Devkota, Malla K Sundar, Pasang Sherpa.
The genuine demands should be addressed through amendments in the constitution, reads the memo. "The solution to Tarai unrest calling for rights should be resolved through political dialogues."
The leaders have also urged the government to control the existing exorbitant price-hike, shortage of foodstuffs and black marketing.
