"Circumstantial evidences to indicate policewoman's rape"

KATHMANDU, Nov 1: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Sunday said that there were ‘circumstantial evidences to the possible rape of a policewoman in Achham’. [break]



The national human rights watchdog also recommended government to apply appropriate measures to ensure security of female police officials.



Releasing a report on the case of rape of a policewoman in Achham, NHRC demanded an independent investigation and prosecution in the case. “The accused, if found guilty, should be given maximum punishment,” the report states.



“During the investigations, police officers indicated towards possible sexual abuses in various police offices,” the report adds. “Thus, the government should manage for the security of the policewomen though code of ethics and policy.”



In October, a policewoman at District Police Office (DPO), Achham, had accused six of her colleagues of gang-raping her on September 27.
