KATHMANDU, March 18: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday scrapped the appointment of Saligram Singh as chairman of the Nepal Engineering Council saying that the appointment was illegal.

The erstwhile government had appointed Singh some 10 months ago. [break]

Acting on a tip-off, the CIAA cancelled Singh´s appointment and said he was not qualified for the post as per a provision of the Council Act 2055 BS.

The law states that one should have 15 years of engineering practice to be eligible for the post.

"Singh holds doctorate degree in engineering. But he lacks engineering practice as required by the law. Thus his appointment is illegal," states the press release issued by the CIAA. The commission has also asked the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MoPPW) to implement the decision.
