CIAA receives more complaints related to education sector

DHANKUTA, March 3: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority's (CIAA) Dhankuta-based Eastern Regional Office has received the largest number of complaints related to financial irregularities in education sector.

Within the past seven months of the current fiscal year, the highest number of complaints filed at the regional office and Itahari-based contact office of the CIAA are related to financial irregularities in education sector, according to data provided by the respective offices.


Out of the total 430 complaints received, 148 are related to education sector, according to the CIAA's Eastern Regional Office. The complaints in education sector are specific to financial irregularities in construction of school buildings and repair works, toilet construction, purchase of textbooks and distribution of scholarships.

The complaints filed at the CIAA other than in education sector include 84 related to Ministry for Federal Affairs and Local Development followed by Health Ministry (39), Lands Reform Ministry (32), Home Ministry (31), Ministry of Forests (27), Physical Infrastructure Ministry (17), Cooperative Ministry (10) and nine concerning Ministry of Irrigation.

The lowest number of complaints filed at the CIAA's office is related to Information and Communication Ministry (5), Energy Ministry (5), Agriculture Ministry (4), Urban Development Ministry (3), and Culture And Tourism Ministry (3).

The anti-graft body has settled 208 complaints out of the total received over the past seven months within the current fiscal year (2072/73 BS).

The complaints were registered at the CIAA's Eastern Regional Office and contact office through letters, fax, email and telephone. According to the offices, the largest number of complaints filed are from Siraha and Saptari districts.

Currently, the CIAA is carrying out detailed investigation of the 50 complaints including some of them from the last fiscal year, Under-Secretary Navin Kumar Joshi told Republica.
