KATHMANDU, Dec 2: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has directed the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to relocate its office from the Rastriya Sabha Griha within next 30 days.

Stating that the use of the building as KMC's office has bred squalor, the anti-graft body has ordered the KMC to immediately relocate its office elsewhere and restore the Sabha Griha to its previous condition.

A press statement issued by the CIAA on Monday states that it was inappropriate for the KMC to use the Sabha Griha at a time when the country has no other alternative for any kind of national, regional and international conferences.

For holding the 18th SAARC Summit, the government had given a major facelift to the Sabha Griha, spending hefty amount. And the government had even decided to use the hall only for special national and international conferences. But after the April 25 earthquake KMC had relocated its office to the Sabha Griha citing damage caused to its Bag Durbar offices.

According to the CIAA, it received numerous complaints about the squalid condition of the Sabha Griha.
