In a meeting with the deputy chief of mission (DCM) at the embassy on Monday, MoFA officials sought help to rescue the Nepalis. They were taken to Libya to work at a project run by Shino Hydro Company of China.
Similarly, MoFA has asked the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other international charity organizations to help the Nepali workers stranded in Libya.
According to our New Delhi correspondent, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has made a formal request to the Ministry of External Affairs in India on Monday to help rescue Nepali workers from Libya.
An MoEA source in Delhi said, "We have received a request today (Monday) and it has been accepted, adding, "The request has been considered very positively by the ministry."
The request has come a day after government spokesperson and and Minister without Portfolio, Ganga Lal Tuladhar, said the government will leave no stone unturned in rescuing the Nepalis stranded in Libya.
The request has also been made in the light of the successful evacuation of Indian nationals from Libya after the Indian government obtained flight landing permission from Libyan authorities.
Indian government will also assist in rescuing some 562 Nepalis who entered Alexandria of Egypt earlier following the political unrest in Libya, according to officials. The government has already sent $30,000 to its Embassy in Egypt for the rescue.
The details of the rescue operation are yet to be worked out between the two neighbors.
