At a meeting with Nepali customs officials, Vice Minister for China Customs Li Kenong, who recently visited Nepal, had asked Nepali officials to come up with a proposal with possible measures to modernize the offices. [break]
“The Chinese government is ready to support Nepal in modernizing customs, and for this we need a concrete proposal from Nepal,” Chief of Tatopani Customs Office, Chudamani Devkota quoted Li as saying.
On the occasion, Li also assured China´s support in capacity-building of customs officials. Six-member Chinese delegation led by Li had wrapped up four-day visit to Nepal on Friday.
Nawaraj Bhandari, director general of the Department of Customs, said support from the Chinese government would be crucial in leading Nepal´s ill-equipped customs system to modernization.
According to Devkota, officials from both countries had had extensive discussion on promotion and facilitation of bilateral trade, checking cross-border illegal trade and introduction of selective system in customs offices for specialized treatment to traders.
On the occasion, Chinese officials had shared their experience of success in gaining share of world trade and modernization of customs.
On their way back to China through Tatopani customs, Chinese delegation had acquired fresh information about preparation for the construction of Tatopani Dry Port as well as the latest trade situation between two countries.
