KATHMANDU, MAY 3:  A meeting of 10 political parties, including the NC, CPN-UML and MPRF (D), on Monday urged the UCPN (Maoist) to call off the indefinite strike in view of the critical political situation of the country and seek solution to political impasse through dialogue.

They said the strike has affected regular supply of goods and deprived people of their fundamental rights. [break]

In a statement issued after the meeting at the prime minister´s official residence, the parties reiterated that they are ready for a national consensus provided that the Maoist party transformed itself into a civilian party, and agreed to manage Maoist combatants and to return property seized during the insurgency.

They said the Maoist move to take to the street to topple the government is both undemocratic and unconstitutional.

The meeting also advised the government to take necessary precautions to provide security to public and private property and prevent possible provocative actions during the Maoist strike.
