SALYAN, Jan 16: Finance Minister Barshaman Pun on Wednesday stressed on the reinstatement of the dissolved Constituent Assembly (CA), and said the restored CA will issue already agreed-on content of the new constitution, make a new government and hold elections.

The UCPN (Maoist) leader, while speaking at a press conference in Shitalpati, Salyan , said there is no alternative to the CA reinstatement as the major opposition Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML have refused to join the current government and snubbed the idea of forming a new government under an independent candidate. Our party is ready for negotiation if NC and UML come up with a ‘more scientific’ alternative, compared to the three options floated by his party to end the existing stalemate, said Pun who is currently in Salyan to inaugurate the part’s third district conference.

On the occasion, the Maoist minister said, as per constitutional provisions, only a truth and reconciliation commission can settle cases of violence perpetrated during the wartime. “Any examination of cases happened during that time (Maoist insurgency) from outside the commission will be an unconstitutional move,” he said.
