BAGLUNG, June 24: Acting Chief Commissioner of the Election Commission (EC) Neelkantha Uprety on Sunday said the commission is capable to hold the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections on November 22 if the political parties forge consensus on the polls.

"If the political parties want, the CA polls can be held as scheduled," said Uprety at a function in Parbat, adding, "EC has been making necessary preparation for the polls." [break]

He said the government has not responded to EC´s written request regarding removal of legal difficulties for holding the elections. "We have already sent a letter to the government urging it to remove the legal difficulties but the government has yet to respond," Uprety added.

Instructing officials at the District Development Committee, Parbat, he directed them to remain prepared for the election.

He maintained that the CA elections should be held in March if it is not held in November.

On the local elections, Uprety said it was ´mockery of democracy´ to not hold elections to the local bodies even after restoration of peace in the country.
