Maoist Eastern region in-charge C P Gajurel and chief of Maoist Kochila state committee Haribol Gajurel draped the body with party flags before cremation. His only son Yupesh Khadka lit the funeral pyre.
CA member Khadka was popular not only among the party rank and file, but also among the local populace and other party political party leaders.
´Khadka was party´s pillar in the eastern region. He had a very clean image and was tolerant toward people holding dissenting views,” said Maoist politburo member Ram Karki, who was a close friend of Khadka.
Khadka had taken neutral stance in the intra-party internal power struggle and policy disputes, and he had stood against Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal´s move to take action against Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai a few months back.
“He did not have enmity with anyone inside and outside the party,” said Karki.
Other political party leaders speaking just before the cremation said they lost a popular and helpful leader.
“He was well-known for his tolerance toward other political party activists. It is sad that we have lost such a leader,” sad CA member from the Nepali Congress (NC) Keshav Budhathoki.
Similarly, UML Central Committee advisor Man Kumar Gautam appreciated the amicable personality of Khadka and that the people in Jhapa have been saddened by the death.
A Central Committee (CC) member of the UCPN (Maoist), Khadka from Anarmuni VDC in Jhapa was elected to the CA under first-past-the-post system of election from Jhapa Constituency 2.
