KATHMANDU, June 29: Police on Monday arrested a burglar on the charge of stealing Rs 700,000 in cash along with 43 tolas of gold from Samakhushi-based Janamilan Cooperatives.

Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), Teku, has detained Meklal Tamang of Bhalche-9 of Nuwakot district, charging him for the robbery.

Taking advantage of the devastating earthquake, accused Tamang stealthily broke into Samakhushi-based Janamilan Cooperatives and decamped with the safe containing the cash and gold.

On April 26, Tamang took the money and cash after dismantling the safe at Shivpuri jungle based in Tokha Municipality-2.

According to MPCD, Tamang returned home after hiding the smashed safe in a puddle nearby the jungle.

The accused has been handed over to Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu for legal action, said MPCD.

Police had already arrested Sunil Tamang and Bahun alias Mani Raj Kafle in this connection.
