Tapendra Singh, 8, was found dead, and his sister Sharon, 10, who underwent surgery at Kohalpur Hospital, had not regained consciousness till late evening.[break]
Locals said the attack occurred at around eight Monday morning, when the parents of the two kids were not at home.
"We found the boy dead inside the house, and rushed toward Sharon, who had tottered out to the courtyard, following the blood trail left behind by her," Lalit Saud, a local, said. Saud said the boy´s throat was slit and there were injury marks on his hands and head.
"I saw my daughter collapse in the courtyard while running toward me. I couldn´t go in and see my son after hearing that his body was in a pool of blood," step-mother Hira said. The children´s father had remarried seven months ago as their mother had eloped when they were just toddlers. Kshitij is currently working in Dubai .
Tapendra was in lower kindergarten of Santa Nirankari Adarsha Vidya Mandir, Tikapur while Sharon was a second-grader in the same school. The incident has left the whole Sitapur stunned and the children of the village terrorized.
Police have yet to identify the attacker.
A team under Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sanu Ram Bhattarai has been deployed from District Police Office, Kailali to investigate the incident. The Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kailali Basanta Panta said the interrogation with the step-mother and a few others has not reveled anything.
