An underground outfit routinely setting off bombs at the homes of businessmen had planted the bomb under seat No. B 10 of a Bheri Yatayat bus (Na 4 Kha 1332) plying the Jamunaha-Kohalpur route.[break]The bomb went off at Ganapur on the Surkhet road some eight kilometers north of Nepalgunj.
Asna Jasgadh, 5, of Jayaspur-5, Chhenga Yadav, 70, and Srijana Yadav, 29, of Ganapur-2, Radha Yadav of Nepalgunj-13, Adarsha Nagar, Tilak Bikram Chnad of Kohalpur-8 and Ram Dutta Sharma of Jumla were injured in the bomb blast that destroyed the bus windowpanes and the seat under which it was planted. Doctors involved in their treatment said they were injured in the feet by splinters.
Police said heavy casualties were averted as most of the 22 passengers were sitting in the front of the bus. Janatantrik Tarai Madhesh Mukti Party, which later contacted local media to own up to the blast, had called a ´Tharuhat´ strike for Saturday, protesting the killing of its Rupandehi in-charge Bhawani Singh in Lumbini on March 5. The group had been involved in extortions from businessmen and industrialists in Nepalgunj in the past.
