The bomb went off when Maoist politburo member Agni Prasad Sapkota was addressing the crowd of supporters gathered on the playground of Ananda Higher Secondary School in Jalbire VDC of Sindhupalchok district. [break]
The explosion took place just 50 meters from the podium where Maoist Central Committee member Krishna Prasad Sapkota and some former Constituent Assembly (CA) members were seated, besides Pun and Sapkota. Luckily, no one was injured as the blast occurred away from the crowd. The blast partially damaged the school´s gate.
“It was a pipe bomb,” said Police Inspector Balkrishna Pokharel. The police said they have already arrested three suspects. DSP Basanta Kumar Lama said that the identities of the suspects would be divulged only after the investigation into the blast is concluded.
The program was organized by the Maoists to induct more cadres into the party. The UCPN (Maoist) district committee claimed that it has inducted 200 new cadres into the party in Sindhupalchowk district.
