Birgunj senior citizens hard up

PARSA, March 22: The allowance being provided under social security title has not been provided to senior citizens for months, hitting them hard.



Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City has not distributed allowance, the only source to eke out a living of many senior citizens, for the last seven months. [break]



Chandra Bahadur Chhetri (88) of Birguj-16 said he has not received allowance since the Nepali month of Shrawan. According to him, family members don´t give a fig in a penniless situation.



Distribution of security allowance is being delayed despite the fact that budget is being released on time. VDC officials are also clueless about the factor delaying in releasing allowance. "The concerned authority is non-serious on our problems," said Ward Secretary Manik Miya.



When RSS took the problem to Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City, Chief Executive Officer Shiva Dutta Bhattarai said allowance will be distributed soon.
