BIRGUNJ: The Labor Office of Birgunj has issued letters to around 300 industries demanding that they update their industrial statistics as per the Labor Act 1991.

“We started sending letters to those industries because they have not updated their status at the labor office,” Radheshyam Jha, chief of Birgunj Labor Office, said. The labor office sent letters to 119 industries in Bara district as of last Friday.[break]

The labor office has not received any update from these industries since 1994/95. “We issued letters to 151 industries located in Parsa district on Sunday,” Jha said, adding, the labor office took the initiative to manage the industrial sector in Birgunj area.

According to Jha, labor office has asked for information like details of workers, structure of bonus distribution system, regulations prepared by industries and the amount of money deposited in the welfare fund so far, among others.

“The industries here have received letters from the labor office and they will soon send details,” Binod Shah, president of the Bara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), said. “We are excited about the initiative taken by the labor office which is supposed to closely monitor industrial activities.”
