Issuing a joint press statement, the UCPN (Maoist), the Nepali Congress and the CPN UML on Saturday said that though they are not in favor of any kind of transport syndicate they expressed solidarity with the transporters´ syndicate decision.[break]
Earlier, the home ministry had sought clarification from Chief District Officer of Kaski Chet Nath Bhattarai for supporting local transporter´s syndicate. Process was under way to register a new transporter association to end the monopoly of Pokhara City Bus Committee (PCBC) in public transport services in Pokhara.
Consumer Forum, Kaski has also flayed the decision saying it favored a particular association. President of the Forum Kapilnath Koirala said the monopoly of PCBC should be ended to protect the rights of consumers.
District-in charge of UCPN Maoist Jhalakpani Tiwari, District President of Nepali Congress Yagya Bahadur Thapa and District President of CPN Maoist Manbahadur GC, however, said that they do not favor any kind of syndicate. They said the decision was taken simply to make the transport sector more organized.
Supreme Court last year had ordered government to scrap all forms of syndicates existing in different business sectors, including transportation.
