KATHMANDU, April 8: The meeting of the three major political parties, UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML, on Sunday could not make headway into finalizing bills on the formation of a truth and reconciliation commission (TRC) and a commission for inquiry into forced disappearances.

The meeting, held at the peace and reconstruction ministry in Singha Durbar, ended inconclusively, finding certain provisions in the draft bills prepared by the law ministry not up to the mark, NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel told reporters after the meeting. [break]

It is learnt that the leaders were unhappy particularly with the provisions related to heinous crimes including abduction, rape, murder and torture perpetrated against unarmed persons and civilians during the armed conflict.

NC leader Paudel also said the leaders will continue their discussion on the issues in the next meeting. Besides Paudel, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, among others, were present in the meeting.
