Bhaktapur to turn to child labor free district

BHAKTAPUR, Aug 15: Bhaktapur district, which has been in a vicious circle of child labor, is turning to be a district sans child labor.



Chief District Officer Jeetendra Bahadur Bhandari said a campaign is in place to make Bhaktapur a model district by removing child labor. [break]



Under the campaign, 150 children involved in health hazard works in Madhyapur Thimi area were rescued and handed over to their families a month ago, Bhandari said.



Likewise, income generating program has been operated focusing on the families of child laborers, he added.



Various workplaces such as office, factory, industry, hotel, tea shop and means of transportation operated in the district will be made child labour free zone.



It is noted that such child laborers will be rescued under the leadership of District Child Welfare Committee.
