KATHMANDU, April 19: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has granted Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to BB Airways, a new airlines company promoted by Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs), allowing it to operate scheduled international and chartered flights in seven major destinations.

With the granting of AOC, the company promoted by Bhavan Bhatta, treasurer of NRN Association, has announced that the company would start international flights within a year. [break]

BB Airways had applied for international AOC certificate on September 25, 2011 and CAAN awarded AOC to the company last week, the company said in a statement.

As per the AOC condition, the airlines will need to operate its international flight by July 15, 2013. The AOC also makes clear that the Airline operator should operate only international flights with Boeing 737-300 aircrafts.

It has been allowed to operate flights to destinations including New Delhi, Bangkok, Kula Lumpur, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Doha and Singapore.

“The AOC now has given rights to BB Airways to purchase aircraft and operate in the designated international destinations,” the company said, disclosing that it is planning to operate three aircraft, two in the first year and another within three years of operation.
