CHITWAN, June 1: Govinda Bahadur Batala, a former Maoist brigade commander, who was convicted by Chitwan District Court for the murder of Koteshwor based businessman Ram Hari Shrestha on Tuesday, has been sent to Kathmandu on Wednesday for interrogation on the charge of kidnapping.

Though Batala was sentenced to three years imprisonment for Shrestha´s murder, he was released as he had already spent three years in detention. [break]

He was, however, taken into custody immediately by Kathmandu police in connection to the kidnapping of Shrestha.

"He took my brother away at 2 am from the house as per Kali Bahadur Kham´s order, therefore, he is the main accused in the kidnapping case," said Shyam Kaji Shrestha, Shrestha´s elder brother.

Shrestha´s widow Rima Shrestha, in her statement to the Katmandu police, said, “Had he not taken my husband away, he would still be alive." Shrestha´s family is demanding life imprisonment for all the accused.

Shrestha´s family has said that the punishment for the murder accomplices was not sufficient and that they would move to an appellate court seeking stricter sentence.

"The District Court did not issue a punishment as we demanded, therefore, we´ll go to appellate court," said Shrestha´s lawyer and district attorney Geeta Prasad Timilsina.
