The protest was part of CPN-UML´s nationwide protest program against the present government. [break]

Addressing the gathering Basnet challenged that ‘he could halt the nation if he wanted’ and warned East Regional police Chief DIG Surendra Bahadur Shah to rectify his mistakes.

Referring to Shah, Basnet said, “My party is not as corrupt as your association (Nepal Police) where six (former) chiefs have faced corruption charges.”

Though DIG Shah directed his security personnel to clear the obstruction, the latter turned mute spectators of the whole incident. Morang SP Niraj Bahadur Shahi reportedly ‘defied’ Shah’s order.
