KATHMANDU, August 28: The agitating 33 political parties have announced anti-poll protests with a plan to foil the candidacy registration by calling a nationwide general strike from September 25 to 26.

Arguing that the protest will exert pressure on major political parties to create environment conducive to political consensus, the CPN-Maoist-led alliance made the protest programs public on Wednesday. [break]

The meeting of the agitating alliance at the CPN-Maoist head office at Buddhanagar in the capital also decided to urge President Dr Ram Baran Yadav to take the initiative to hold a roundtable conference so as to resolve the disputed issues in the constitution writing.

The alliance has planned various protest programs including a nationwide strike and shutdown in cities across the country.

The alliance also concluded that the talks foundered at the behest of foreign forces. The alliance also accused the parties represented in the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) of surrendering before the foreign forces.

"Chances of resuming the talks is slim, and we have made our protest programs public to exert pressure on HLPC members to seek consensus," Ram Singh Shrees, leader of CPN (Ekikrit), told Republica.

The talks had foundered after the HLPC refused to defer the CA election slated for November 19.

"We urge the four parties to reconsider their decision for the sake of political consensus," reads the statement issued by Dev Gurung, CPN-Maoist secretary.

Similarly, the alliance has planned an interaction in Kathmandu between the political forces and other stakeholders in first week of September to inform the people about how the four parties derailed the talks.
