BIRATNAGAR, June 10: A Baidya-faction leader of the UCPN Maoist, C P Gajurel has said his faction was in favor of capitalism and individual property rights.

Gajurel, interacting with the businessmen said the capitalism was the only way for prosperity and industrial development in the country. [break]“The Baidya-faction of the Maoist party is also for capitalism,” one of the businessmen who was present in the interaction program organized by Morang Merchant´s Association (MMA), quoted Gajurel as saying.

The officials of the MMA had shared economic agendas with Gajurel. “The purpose of the meeting was purely business,” he said, “Gajurel, himself showed interest to meet representatives from business community of Morang district.”

Gajurel said roundtable conference should be a way out to formulate a new constitution in the country. The hard-liner faction of the Maoist has reiterated that the roundtable conference should be for all party and representation of every single group. “That is the only logical option for the current situation,” the business person quoted Gajurel as saying.

Gajurel, who frequently visits Biratnagar, himself sought the meeting.

Abhinash Bohara, president of the MMA said Gajurel was in town to take stock of ground realities of the post May 27 situation.

“We put forward our issues as well,” Bohara said. “We told him that we were hopeful of a new constitution and we expressed our optimism.” He further added that the business community had requested political consensus to resolve the current crisis.
