The BAC has been entrusted by the CA to allocate time to Constitutional Committee (CC) for resolving the disputes in constitution writing and prepare the integrated draft of the new constitution. [break]
The BAC´s meeting was called after a ten-day deadline given to the CC for resolving disputes expired on Tuesday.
Nepali Congress (NC) Chief Whip Laxman Ghimire said that the BAC has invited UCPN (Maoist) parliamentary party leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal, NC´s Ram Chandra Paudel, CPN-UML´s Jhalanath Khanal and Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D)´s parliamentary party leader Bijay Gachchhadar for the Thursday´s meeting to ask them what they did during the last ten days for advancing the peace process and resolving disputes.
"We want to know what exactly is the present status of the peace process and constitution writing, and what plan of action do they have to accomplish the twin tasks in the remaining 53 days," Acharya told reporters, emerging from the BAC meeting.
"Based on their arguments we will allocate time to the CC for dispute resolution."
CPN-UML´s Chief Whip Bhim Acharya said they decided to invite the leaders to ask them how many days they needed at the least for resolving disputes. "We will allocate minimum time for the purpose as the CA deadline is fast approaching," he said.
Meanwhile, the top leaders are yet to resolve some of the thorny matters to be enshrined in the new constitution, such as system of governance, state restructuring, electoral system and judicial system.
Work at the CC and the dispute resolution subcommittee has come to a virtual halt with NC and UML leaders insisting that there should be tangible progress in integration of former Maoist combatants into the Nepal Army before advancing the constitution writing.
