In the press meet leading up to International Youth Day 2012 on August 12, Pradip Pariyar, President of Association of Youth Organizations Nepal (AYON), said, “It’s evident that youths in our country are involved in every major protests and bandhs. They are being used as an object, to be used only when needed and discarded when their use is over. The youths need to come forward otherwise a peaceful Nepal will never be a reality.”[break]
He further went on to express hope that leaders will learn to involve the youth in the decision making process also.
AYON, which has been celebrating International Youth Day since 2004, has many events planned in the capital for the day. Ratriya Nach Ghar will come alive with a photography exhibition, a performance by Kutumba and a discussion on the participation of the youth in peace building with former Prime Ministers
Sher Bahadur Deuba, Puspa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal. A rally will also commence from Bhadrakali and end at Rastiya Sabha Griha, via Ratna Park and old bus park.
The theme for the International Youth Day this year has been titled “Building a Better World: Partnering with Youth”.
