Arun takes lead on day I

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Arun Tamang on Monday took the lead in the Faldo Series Nepal Championship after the completion of the first round at Gokarna Golf Club in Kathmandu. Arun posted a round of two-under 70 to take five strokes lead over Shivaraj Majhi, who scored a round of three-over 75 in the boys' 17-21 age category.

Prithiva Malla shot four-over 76 along with Ashok Lama to be tied at third place after the first round. Raju Diwakar is lying fifth at six-over 78. Anil Lama is sixth with seven-over 79.In the boys' category of age 12-16, Akash Rai leads the standing with the score of five-over 77. One stroke adrift is last year's qualifier Aryaan Kumar and Tenzing Tsering. Sam Doublard shot 11-over 83 to be fourth in the category.

In the girls' section, Pratima Sherpa turned in a card of 93. Kashmira Shah carded 111 and Smita Shrestha 120.

The event is being played on a stroke-play format over 54 holes. Altogether 32 juniors from age 12-21 are competing in the tournament. Winner from each category will qualify to play the Faldo Series Asia Finale to be held at Mission Hills Golf Club, China in March 2016.
