KATHMANDU, Aug 1: The Nepal Army has refuted a news report published on Republica on its Saturday edition that it turned down the UNDOF and UNIFIL´s proposal for deployment of additional NA soldiers. [break]

Issuing a press statement, Directorate of Public Relations, NA, said it has not turned down the proposal for the deployment of 150 additional troops to UNIFIL. The NA, however, said that it was currently awaiting confirmation from the UN headquarters.

The statement also made it clear that the Nepal Army is committed to international peace and harmony and would continue to contribute its troops for the noble cause. The NA first deployed its military observers in Lebanon in 1958, but the actual troop deployment took place since 1978.

The statement added that UNMIS Force Commander, Major General Pawan Jung Thapa is currently stationed in Khartoum, Sudan, not in Darfur as reported in the news.
