KATHMANDU, Jan. 15: An appeal was registered at the National Information Commission (NIC) on Tuesday against Chief Secretary Leelamani Poudel and Under Secretary and Information Officer at Prime Minister´s Office Shanker KC for denying information by misinterpreting Nepal´s Interim Constitution and the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

RTI activists Taranath Dahal and Sanjeeb Ghimire had moved the NIC after the Office of Prime Minister refused to provide them with the information citing that it was not mandatory for public agency to disclose information that are legally subject to kept confidential.

The PMO had said this while responding to a RTI application filed by Dahal and Ghimire on last September 12.

The applicants said that the information sought was related to decisions passed by the Cabinet and not the documents under process.

It was also alleged in the appeal that the public accountability was all ignored bearing in mind the culture of maintaining confidentiality.

The duo had used RTI to demand information about the ordinances presented before the President by the Council of Ministers during the period from Constituent Assembly (CA) dissolve to this date.
