Two Armed Police Force (APF) men -- Bablu Lama, 24, of Bara, and Bikram Shahi, 27, of Dolakha -- breathed their last while being taken to BPKIHS hospital in Dharan on Saturday morning for further treatment. [break]
Two more APF men, Guman Singh Tharu Chaudhary and Raju Rana, who were injured in the accident, are receiving treatment at BPKIHS hospital.
On Friday night, as a van (Ba. 1 Jha 5987) belonging to the Chhinnamasta battalion of the APP collided with a bus (Na. 2 Kha 594) on the Janakpur-Dhalkebar section of the East-West highway, two policemen including SP Pathak had died on the spot.
Another policeman who died along with SP Pathak has been identified as sub inspector (SI) Kumar Bahadur Dahal. While SP Pathak, who was in-charge of the Chhinnamasta battalion, hailed from Janakpur-4, SI Dahal, 30, was a resident of Dolakha.
The APF team met with the accident while on its way back to Chhinnamasta after participating in a security-review meeting held in Jaleshwor, the district headquarters of Mahottari. The bus that hit the APF fan was carrying students of Shri Ram Secondary School, Janakpur. The bus driver who had fled instantly after the accident is yet to come into contact.
The police say the accident might have taken place as both the bus and the van were over-speeding and visibility along the highway was poor due to thick smog.
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar paid his last tributes to the dead bodies of the dead APF men. SP Pathak was cremated on Saturday.
