Follwoing the APF´s take over, Nepal Army (NA) has withdrawn its personnel deployed to provide ´close protection´ to the former monarch. So far, APF men had been providing only ´outer protection´ to the former king. [break]
The APF Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shailendra Khanal said altogether 50 APF personnel have been deployed for the security of the former king. “We have taken full charge of security of the former king starting from Friday.
The NA personnel mobilized for his close protection have been replaced by APF personnel,” he said. Khanal said the NA had deployed 25 NA personnel for ´close protection´ as APF did not have trained manpower for the purpose.
“We took over from NA as now we have manpower well-trained for the purpose,” he said. The 50 APF men would be under the command of a deputy superintendent of police and will provide security and escorting to the former king.
