KATHMANDU, Jan 18: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday summoned the prime minister and attorney general to furnish explanation within seven days with regard to their intervention in the investigation process of the 2004 murder case of Dailekh-based journalist Dekendra Thapa.

A single bench of Justice Sushila Karki issued the order acting on a writ petition filed Sunday by advocate Kamal Prasad Itani of Nepal Democratic Lawyers´ Association and secretary of Nepal Press Union Santosh Neupane at the court. [break]

In the petition, the duo accused the prime minister and the attorney general of holding the court in contempt for the PM having given verbal directive and the AG having issued written instruction to halt the prosecution and investigation into the murder case.

The petitioners claimed that both the prime minister and the attorney general do not have any right to interfere with a sub judice case. They also claimed that the prime minister and the attorney general by interfering with the case have violated their jurisdictions.
