Besides deluging around two dozen houses and destroying physical infrastructure worth millions, and displacing scores of people, the ongoing natural onslaught has placed dozen more houses on the verge of destruction.
Tolidewal, Kailashmandau, Kuldevmandau, Brahmatola, Atichaur and Barhabise VDCs have been hit the hardest by the flood and landslides, informed the district police.
“Nothing has been spared. Our lifetime earnings including houses, water sources, water outlets, bridges, police posts, hydraulic canals, you name it, everything has gone,” said a panicky local. [break]
Floodwater in Tolidewal VDC-4 has deluged the houses of Indra Ayadi and Radhe Ayadi while a landslide has buried the house of Mandhira Ayadi.
Meanwhile, the house of Narendra Ayadi, Prem Ayadi and Tule Ayadi are at a high risk of being washed away anytime soon, informed police.
“The family members of Surendra Bhandari and 12 other households have been displaced in Tolidewal VDC-6,” said another local resident, Tej Bahadur Saud.
Similarly, the houses of Daya Thapa, Narendra Thapa and Ganesh Malla in Kailashmandau VDC, and a shop of Krishna Saud in Barabise VDC have been swept away by the flood. Hotels owned by Khadak Rokayo and Prakash Giri have been buried under the debris following a landslide.
Meanwhile, hundreds of families settled at Gumla, Bajeti, Nimni, Kalapani, Juwapani, Rila and Pata villages are at high risk of a landside. “The incident has installed deep fear among us. If it hits us again, there are least changes of surviving here,” said a local from Kalapni village.
The torrential downpour that continued throughout the night has destroyed a water source of Parmela Drinking Water Project located at Kailashmandau VDC.
The normal lives of more than 25 households in the VDC have been paralyzed following the flooding, informed the police.
“The Danchadi River has become the only source of drinking water for the locals after the flooding badly damages the project,” said Jogmayer Buda, a local. The project was constructed at a cost of Rs 6,00,000.
Meanwhile, the flooding has damaged a large swathe of arable land in Kuldeumandau VDC.
