Talking to this daily, Narayan Marasini, acting managing director of AICL, said the fertilizers in stock and the additional consignment, which is on the way to Nepal from Kolkata, would be sufficient to meet the demand of the paddy weeding season.
He also said demand for chemical fertilizers has slowed as paddy plantation season is almost over.
The AICL currently has 39,996 tons of chemical fertilizers in stock, while another 32,096 tons is being transported from India. Branch offices of AICL have 24,853 tons of Urea, 11,804 tons of DAP, 2,258 tons of potash and 1,080 tons of organic fertilizer in stock. Likewise, 21,341 tons of Urea and 10,755 tons of DAP are being transported from India. [break]
Tek Prasad Luitel, co-spokesperson of Ministry of Agricultural Development, said chemical fertilizers were in short supply last year as the ministry had to cancel the tender after the Indian firm supplied underweight sacks (of chemical fertilizers).
“But supply this year is smooth. The process of importing fertilizers for wheat plantation season is already underway,” added Luitel.
AICL´s target was to distribute 220,000 tons of chemical fertilizers in 2012/13. But it could distribute only 177,091 tons. During the year, it imported 225,100 tons.The government had allocated Rs 5.17 billion to subsidize purchase of chemical fertilizers in 2012/13.
