DHARA, July 30: The future of pupils of a Christian missionary school in Dharan has become uncertain following the arrest of the school principal Monday on the charge of sexually harassing some girl students.

Principal of Emmanuel International Boarding School, Kaping Maram, was arrested after the students complained that he sexually harassed them inside a school´s bathroom.

Right activists and the teachers are worried as there is no responsible person to handle the school and take care of poor and orphaned boarders after Maram´s arrest.

There are altogether 55 students in the school hostel - 31 boys and 24 girls. And of the total students, half a dozen of the students were brought to Dharan by Kaping from the Indian state of Manipur. [break]

“Till now, Kaping Sir has been solely handling the children´s needs. But after his arrest, we are worried about future of the students as there is no authority to take up the responsibility,” said Prema Subba, a teacher.

Few individuals, who had helped to establish the school, had turned up on Tuesday in the school, but they informed that they had handed the responsibility of the school to one Indian national identified as John.

Right activist and the parents have been searching for John, but they have not found him or any other persons involved in the school management.

“Few persons belonging to Christianity had visited the school. But we are yet to find out individuals who are in the school management committee,” said a parent.

Of total six teachers in the school, four teachers hail from India. And they are reluctant to shoulder the responsibility of the school after the scandal.

“We are really worried about the boarders as majority of them are orphan and belong to poor families,” said Subba. “And there is food left in the hostel´s mess. From where shall we manage the food?”

After the arrest of the principal, all the academic activities of the school too remain disrupted.

DSP Chandra Dev Rai said Kaping have been remanded to judicial custody Tuesday for further investigation.

Meanwhile, his wife Radila Mara arrested on the chare of attempting to cover up the alleged wrongdoing of her husband has also been asked to present herself before the court as and when required.
