However, the furore the incident created seems to have least deterred Speaker Subas Nembang. He accepted the invitation to attend a similar function in the same neighborhood when the organizers of the function arranged for a chopper to take him there.[break]
Speaker Nembang had reached to Sanghu VDC in Lalitpur on Friday through an army chopper to inaugurate golden jubilee function of a local Saraswati Lower Secondary School. Sankhu VDC is nearly 60 kilometers from Lagankhel.
Sources close to Nembang said the organizers of the function had arranged for an army chopper after he expressed inability to attend the function. He was scheduled to attend the 89th golden jubilee celebration of Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Memorial Foundation at Staff College, Jawalakhel on Friday afternoon.
“The speaker did not want to attend the function as it takes 5-6 hours to reach there in the vehicle,” said a source close to Nembang. “However, he decided to go when organizers arranged for a helicopter.”
Nembang was accompanied by a former CPN-UML lawmaker from Lalitpur Mitha Ram Sharma Bajgain. The source claimed that a local social worker had paid the for the army chopper that picked Nembang from Tribhuvan International Airport and dropped him back.
Airlines operators say it cost about US $ 800 to 1000 (approximately Rs 58,000 to 73,000) for half an hour charter flight that carries five to six persons.
Maoist lawmaker Barsha Man Pun had also reached to neighboring Gotikhel VDC in army chopper last Friday to inaugurate golden jubilee celebration of Mahankal Higher Secondary School, a community school. The organizers had paid Rs 50,000 for airfare.
