ADB veep wraps up Nepal visit

KATHMANDU, Feb 19: Asian Development Bank (ADB) vice-president Xiaoyu Zhao concluded his three-day Nepal visit on Sunday, reiterating the multilateral donor´s support for Nepal´s constitution writing process and economic reforms. Issuing a press statement, ADB´s Nepal office said Zhao requested Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattrai to focus on economic development to reduce poverty.



During his meeting with PM Bhattarai, Zhao stressed the need to address development challenges, sustainable economic growth, peace and stability. [break]



“Zhao visited the Melamchi Water Supply Project and congratulated the government for its commitment to complete the project,” reads the statement, “ADB remains committed to providing necessary support to the government to ensure that the project is completed despite the long delays it has experienced.”



Zhao met finance minister, environment minister, chief secretary and other senior government officials during his stay in Nepal.

“ADB has a strong commitment to Nepal´s development and poverty reduction efforts,” the statement said, quoting Zhao.
