The Young Achievers’ Award is handed out weekly to young people below the age of 40, who have made notable contributions to the society. The Excellence Achievers’ Award is also handed out weekly to people who have made note-worthy contributions and gained successful achievements in their fields. [break]
“While going through one of the vedas, I learned about karma and how one of the worst sins is to be ungrateful,” said Santosh Shah, President of TYA adding, “that is the reason why we decided to start awarding these awards, to be grateful to their contributions.”
The Excellence Achiever’s Award was awarded to Prakaash Chandwadkar, a visual artist from Arungabadh, India; Surendra Shrestha, tabla maestro and front-man of local fusion band, Sur-Sudha and Dr. Bhagawan Koirala, a very well-received cardiac surgeon. The Young Achievers’ Award was awarded to seven young political personalities from America.
Funded by the American Council of Young political Leaders (ACYPL), these young politicians come from different parts of America came to Kathmandu to research on the unstable political situation of the country.

These honorable guests were Ashley Holbrook, Director, State and Local Government Relations at the Boeing Company; Adam Howard, Member at the Vermont House of Representatives; Kyle Hybl, Chairman at the University of Colorado Board of Regents; Alexander Kuhns, Board Member of the Cincinnati Public Schools; Jeanette Manning, Chief of the Public Safety Division, Office of the Attorney General of DC; Elizabeth McElroy, Assistant to the President and Political Director of the Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO and Rick Smotkin, Vice President of Government Affairs at Comcast Cable Corporation.
“I have always been an artist, the ones that are born,” said Excellence Achiever’s Award recipient Praakash. “It feels very nice to actually get recognized and awarded like this. To me, art has been my life and I’ll continue pursuing it but this recognition has just given me more encouragement,” he added.
The event was held outdoors with an exhibition of the spiritual paintings of Praakash and a short musical performance by Surendra Shrestha.
