Absconding 72- year-old rapist arrested

KATHMANDU, Aug 6: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police on Wednesday arrested an absconding septuagenarian who was convicted of repeatedly raping a teenage girl, who worked as a domestic help for his family.

The arrested has been identified as Pushpalal Upreti aka Bharat Sharma, 72, of Hariban VDC-2 of Sarlahi District and recently living in Sinamangal. Following complaints against the septuagenarian by the thirteen-year-old girl, Maiti Nepal had field a case against him.The seventh grader had disclosed this after school teachers questioned her for her under performance. According to CIB, following the request of school teachers she explained that she was repeatedly raped by the Pushpalal for more than two years from 2010.

Finding him guilty, the District Court Kathmandu on November 2014 had convicted Pushpalal of raping the teenage girl and sentenced him to eight years in jail along with a fine of Rs 100,000. The septuagenarian has been sent to Dilli Bazaar prison.
