Aaha-Rara football from January 22

POKHARA, Oct 7: The 11the edition of Aaha-Rara Gold Cup in Pokhara will be held from January 22, the organizer Sahara Club of Pokhara announced at a press conference on Sunday.



According to Bikram Thakali, the president of Sahara Club, the international inter-club invitational football tournament will feature 12 top tire teams of the nation including one each from eastern and western region. [break]



The winner and the runner up of tournament, to be held with the slogan ´Lets establish Pokhara as the sports tourism city´, will be given attractive cash prize along with trophies, according to Thakali. However, the amount is yet to be disclosed.



The winner and the runners up of tenth edition were given Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively. "Though we will increase the amount it has not been finalize yet," Thakali said.



The best player of the tournament will be awarded a motorbike and a trophy. Similarly, best players in four positions -- goalkeeper, defender, midfield and forward -- and best coach will be given cash prize and trophy. The best player of each match will also be awarded with man-of-the-match trophy.



Speaking at the press conference, Thakali said that the tournament will be helpful for the development of football in national and production of talented players. "The tournament is associated with the prestige of whole Kaski district and will also help in promotion of internal and external tourism in Pokhara. Besides, these local players will also get a platform to show the talents."



The tournament, which was held for the first time in 2002 was named Caravan Gold Cup and was renamed as Aaha Gold Cup the following year. The event has been renamed from the current edition.



Academy gets financial support



Sahara Club on Sunday received financial support of Rs 663,280 for its football academy at Dobilla. The amount was collected from Nepali residing in England and from Nepal.



Chandar Bahadur Gurung of UK provided Rs 250,000 and Hari Shrestha Rs 200,000. Earlier, Gurung had given Rs 50,000 and Shreshtha Rs 100,000 for the academy. Krishna Bahadur Gurung and Tej Bahadur Gurung of UK also provided Rs 50,000 apiece. Swatantra Raj Bhandari gave Rs 13,280.



Similarly, Deepak Neupane of Chitwan gave Rs 50,000 and Khun Bahadur Gurung of Kathmandu Rs 50,000.



Sahara UK´s advisor Dilip Kumar Gurung handed over the amount to club President Thakali. Nepali residing in UK has contributed with more than Rs 5 million for the construction of academy which is now almost complete.
