Those punished are Bhawani Food Factory, Shiva Ganga Spice Store, Khusbu Bakery and Confectionary Products, Rama Food Factory, Jaya Grocery Store, Sushil Vegetable Ghee Factory and Adarsha Oil Industry. [break]
Action was taken against these factories in accordance with the Food Act 2033 after a report of Regional Food Technology and Quality Control Office, Hetauda, found them guilty of producing adulterated and substandard food and selling them in the market, said CDO of Parsa Nagendra Jha.
The Act has a provision of punishment from Rs. 500 to Rs. 25,000 in fine and six to two years of jail sentence for food adulteration.
A monitoring carried out by officials of the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, Department of Commerce and National Consumers´ Forum last year had found adulteration of food from 15 to 25 percent in Nepali food materials.
