SURKHET, Nov 18: At least eight students were injured when students clashed in Dailekh on Friday over new leadership in the All Nepal National Independent Students Union, the student wing of the Maoist party.

The injured students are close to the hard-line faction led by senior Vice chairman Mohan Baidya. [break]

The injured are being treated at a local health care center.

The clash broke out after students close to Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal tried to prevent Dinesh BK from filing his nomination for the district leadership of the student organization.

“The clash broke out after they tried to stop us from filing my nomination,” said BK, “We fled the scene after students close to Dahal started beating us.”

The Dahal-faction had picked Gagan Khadka as the new chairman of the students union. The students close to Dahal have accused the Baidya faction of trying to disrupt the convention.

As the convention was disrupted, both the factions announced separate district committees of the student organizations.
