The two-week-long border blockade has caused acute shortage of supplies especially of petroleum products across the country.
8 police personnel injured in Belhiya
Eight security personnel including Assistant-Sub Inspector Yan Bahadur Kunwar were injured in a clash with Madhesi protesters at Belhiya borderpoint, Rupandehi on Wednesday, police inspector Rabinbabu Regmi of Area Police Office, Belhiya informed.
Situation in Belahiya, Sunauli remained tense and went out of control after UDMF leader Rajendra Mahato and his supporters intensified protests in the area. Mahato had reached Sunauli on Tuesday via Gorakhpur of India to lead the protests in Rupandehi district.
The protesters led by Mahato had reportedly pelted stones at police from the Indian territory after the security personnel stopped them to stage sit-in protest at the Belhiya border point.
Likewise, the protestors had also thrashed Krishna Bahadur Chhettri, a local of Tilotama municipality, Rupandehi, while he was entering Nepal from Sunauli of India.
Chhettri, whose condition is said to be critical, is undergoing treatment at the Universal Medical College based in Bhairahwa. Indian police deployed at the Indo-Nepal border had remained mute spectators while the protestors thrashed Chhetri, eye witnesses said.
